This has also happened to me. Filled the tank too full. Not only does the gas need room for expantion, the cap is not an air tight fit. So when you right the bike the gas will slosh around a bit. Mostly, The motor builds pressure, and when you turn the engine it pushed the gas out the easiest hole, the top.
